Medicare Overview

Medicare is a federal health insurance program that provides coverage to individuals aged 65 and older, as well as certain younger individuals with disabilities or specific conditions. Understanding the various Medicare options available to you is essential for ensuring you select the plan that best fits your healthcare needs.

Medicare Plan Types

There are several types of Medicare plans available, and it’s important to explore the differences to find the best fit:

Original Medicare (Parts A & B):

Part A (Hospital Insurance)

covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care.

Part B (Medical Insurance)

covers outpatient services like doctor visits, preventive services, and some medical equipment.

Original Medicare does not cover prescription drugs, so many beneficiaries choose to add a Part D Prescription Drug Plan (PDP).

Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)

1.Medicare Advantage (MA) Plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. These plans provide all benefits under Original Medicare (Parts A & B) and often include additional benefits such as prescription drug coverage (Part D), dental, vision, and wellness programs.

2.MA Plans include various types, such as HMO (Health Maintenance Organization), PPO (Preferred Provider Organization), and PFFS (Private Fee-for-Service) Availability and costs vary depending on where you live.

Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D):

Stand-alone Part D Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) are available to people with Original Medicare who want prescription drug coverage. These plans are also available through Medicare Advantage plans that offer drug coverage.

Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap)

Medigap plans are designed to help cover out-of-pocket costs not paid by Original Medicare (such as co-payments, coinsurance, and deductibles). Medigap plans do not cover prescription drugs, and they require additional underwriting in most cases.
